Vzdelávaj sa, pomáhaj a chráň! was s long term solidarity project on building and developing leadership skills for youth in the rural area and building the first animal shelter in Humenné, the town in the east part of Slovakia.
Our volunteers organized workshops, discussions, activities for secondary and high school students based on non-formal education about topics such as inclusion, human rights, animal rights, circuses, castration. They built by themselves the first animal shelter. On 9th of November 2019, the first quarantine station for animals has opened in Humenné thanks to the dedicated work of our volunteers and the local community which was amazingly supportive and helpful from first day.
It was challenging. Looking for a spot in the town, discussing building permits, signing the contracts, fundraising, and spending hundreds of hours with the local community preparing the piece of ground where our shelter will be standing, the day came. 9th of November 2019. On this day, the first quarantine station for animals has opened in Humenné thanks to the dedicated work of our volunteers and the local community which was amazingly supportive and helpful from the day one! From the beginning, our guardian angels have stood by us, Sloboda zvierat, which advised and contributed to us with a financial gift, the organization Pomáhaj a chráň, which has taken the shelter under their wings, Ľubka Kizáková, the heart of the local community, local veterinary clinic, Aďka Benková, deputies of the town of Humenné, teachers, veterinarian MVDr. Lisa, pupils, students and volunteers EduEra and OZ Pomáhaj a chráň!
